Re: British Virgin Islands Sailing Vacation Jan 2018

I received the following email update from BVI Yacht Charters this norning: HURRICANE IRMA UPDATE 2 Dear Rick On September 6 2017 the British Virgin Islands were hit by a category 5 Hurricane Irma. Almost 2 weeks later Hurricane Maria threatened our islands again, but fortunately did not cause any f...

Navionics.com website: worldwide nav chart viewing

Navionics.com has updated their website somewhat recently. Their home page has a zoomable chart that appears to be worldwide coverage of the same chart information that is in their mobile and tablet software. It's very fast to zoom and scroll, and a great way to have a look at any area in the world...

Re: Charts - release date information on the CHS webite

One particular chart that I want but haven't purchased yet is the booklet #3311, "Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Harbour to Desolation Sound". It's release date is 1993! The CHS web page for Future Paper Chart Releases claims that a new release is "In Production". It's shown that stat...

Re: FACS forum signon peculiarity

When I click on that email link (in Thunderbird mail reader), Firefox shows me the login page filled in with my ID and password already. Do you leave your browser running all the time? If you do, and instead of logging out of the forum you just close the tab, then the next time you click on an email...

Re: FACS forum signon peculiarity

I don't use IE so I tested version 8 on two Win XP machines. On the first I said NO to the offer to remember my login id/pswd. After that of course it didn't opo up anything. I couldn't find how to get it to ask me again about saving the password so I went to a second machine and said YES. It pops u...

Re: FACS forum signon peculiarity

That sounds like the browser (as opposed to the web page delivered by the web site). I'm sure it's the browser that does the popup because at one point you told it to remember your id/pswd when you logged in. It's odd that it returns to blank when you click signin. I don't know it that would be the ...

Re: Active Captain - A great Resource for Sailors

Fantastic! Thanks for this. I've registered and had a look around. It's great to be able to zoom and pan the NOAA charts online, and there is a fair amount of information for many points (anchorages, passages, marinas, etc).

More sources for Tides and Currents

Garmin MapSource If you have a Garmin GPS and the MapSource PC program with BlueCharts Americas, it comes with "Tides and Marine Services". I don't see any current data, just tides. It's not a very good display (no sunrise or sunset markings etc). Here is a sample: MapSourceTides.gif WWW ...
